W Tree launches at their Spirit of Place Festival

07/Apr/2009

Small town of 70 now has its home on the net!

The W Tree community in East Gippsland celebrated the launch of its own community website this week at www.wtree.vic.au.

The W Tree site launched on Saturday April 4th as part of the W Tree Spirit of Place Festival, including a day of performances, events and music as community members celebrated the passing over of land from traditional owners and Parks Victoria to W Tree locals.

The W Tree Progress and Promotion Association in conjunction with the wider W Tree community is excited to launch this site and hope it will provide a portal to spread the word about community events and developments as well as being a forum for people to share their thoughts and ideas.

According to a spokesperson from the W Tree Progress Association “we envisage the www.wtree.vic.au site will expand and grow as more people visit, comment and contribute information. Even though the permanent population is only 70+ people, the Spirit of Place Festival and events at the Sakya International Buddhist Academy draw hundreds of people into the area. We look forward to developing the site more and encourage people to contribute material”.

www.wtree.vic.au includes information about the history of the community, local news and events, a community directory and information about the eco-villages and Tibetan Buddhist centre in the region.
