Local students help set up new Singleton website

14/Sep/2010

Singleton in the heart of the glorious Hunter Valley, is the latest community to launch their website.

Located 80km North West of Newcastle NSW, Singleton is a great place to live, having both the friendliness of a caring, country community as well as plenty of facilities and infrastructure. Residents enjoy a carefree lifestyle with a temperate climate and picturesque countryside.

Singleton was founded in 1820 by John Howe, making it one of the oldest towns in Australia. Based on Agriculture then, the town can now boast plenty of employment options with the Coal Mining, Winery, Horse breeding, Dairy & Cattle, Defence and Power Industries surrounding the town.

The site has been set up by a partnership between the Singleton Chamber of Commerce and the senior Computer Studies students at Singleton High School, supported by Community members.

According to Gill Eason, website administrator, “We want this to be a focus for the community, where newcomers can find a Pre-school, who teaches violin or where they can play Touch Footy. Where our overseas students can log in and see what’s happening or where locals can contact the ‘help’ agency they need. The students have done a great job with the site, getting practical hands on experience, enjoying the challenge and giving their CV’s a boost!”
