Raywood Primary School tells community history online
07/Sep/2009
The Victorian community of Raywood has joined the rollcall of other communities around Australia to launch their Community Geographic Domain Name website this week
The small town is 25 kilometres from the City of Bendigo and 180km from Melbourne and sees the new website as a great source of local information.
According to website manager Christine Thompson, “The website idea came about from the Raywood Primary School Principal Trevor Trewartha. Trevor thought the site would be a great way to develop a history of Raywood where the kids would learn about their local area. The Grade 5/6 students are still in the process of collating their research.”
The Raywood Progress Association established the community website so residents and visitors could have a ‘one stop shop’ for information, accessible anywhere, anytime. “The site will also be a great way for past residents to keep abreast with news and happenings around the town. With many improvements planned, the future is exciting.” said Christine.
The content on the Raywood site has snowballed with the website now hosting an array of information including; news and events, committee contact details, business information and even the most up-to-date weather for the area. With the Bendigo Gliding Club based at Raywood there is also links to their website and to the City of Greater Bendigo.
