Nethercote's new site hopes history will strengthen their community

13/Jul/2009

The NSW town of Nethercote has launched it's own community website today: www.nethercote.nsw.au. Community members Bryan Meere and Karen Lott have spared no effort in designing and adding content to the new site which they envisage will offer much to their community.

"Until now, finding out what’s going on in Nethercote hasn’t been easy. Nethercote spans over 40 square kilometres with a population of only 400. Having our own website will provide a great opportunity to let more people in our community as well as neighbouring towns know about what’s going on,” said Bryan.

www.nethercote.nsw.au  includes a comprehensive account of the area from the community directory to local news and events, tourist attractions including the birdlife in the area and information about the town’s interesting history. “Some of the families in the community go back to the very early days, there’s fascinating stuff to be learnt. The more people learn about our history, the stronger our community will grow.”

Both Bryan and Karen have found the experience of creating their community website very rewarding and look forward to sharing their new-found knowledge with the rest of the community. “Opportunities for personal achievement are possible. Being given the chance to actually build something or publish something on the internet- how good is that! Possibilities of, ‘Golly! I didn’t know you could do that,’ and, ‘WOW’.” Says Bryan
