Lord Howe Island - showing the world how its community cares for and preserves their World Heritage home
Last Thursday, 7th June, 2007, a large group of community members and business leaders attended the official launch of www.lordhoweisland.nsw.au
Pixie Rourke, Chair of the Lord Howe Island Tourism Association, said "Our website helps present our beautiful island to the world and is important for our tourism-based economy. It allows us to show the world how our community cares for and preserves our World Heritage home. Our community website further promotes our work - both in hospitality and conservation - in the online world.
World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island, approximately 2 hours flight from Sydney and Brisbane, is a small, vibrant and remote community of just over 300 people. Add to this a maximum of 400 tourists and this island paradise in the Pacific is never crowded. But in the sea and air, and on land, life positively teems with exotic plants, birds and fish that delight the human visitors".
