Christmas lights and community spirit on the new Lobethal site
09/Nov/2009
The Lobethal community in South Australia launched their community website last week at the Lobethal Bierhaus.
Website manager Kim Jordan said the event was a great success for the community, “Comment was made that the usual turnout for a public meeting in Lobethal is two blokes and a dog, on Thursday over thirty five people attended the Lobethal Bierhaus for the launch of the Lobethal Community Website.”
“There was a definite Buzz in the air at the conclusion of the meeting, with two local businesses and two community groups ‘signing up’ for their own webpage and a commitment was made to sponsor the Home Page. The ideas and discussion kept flowing and the Bierhaus closed an hour later than expected.” said Kim.
Lobethal is a small town located approximately 35km from Adelaide in the picturesque Adelaide Hills district. The town is best known for its Christmas Lights Festival where the main streets and many homes are adorned with elaborate decorations and light displays. The tradition began in the 1950’s and is the largest Christmas display in South Australia.
The website launch was introduced by Kathryn Featherstone, the chair of the Lobethal Community Association (LCA). Kathryn spoke about the objective of the LCA to support the development of the town and wellbeing of its residents and said the website is a fantastic tool to enable the LCA to deliver its goals for the community. The LCA recognise how the new community website will contribute both socially and economically to the town while helping build stronger networks and facilitate consultation and communication within the community. The LCA hope that the new site will promote Lobethal to other communities both within South Australia and nationally.
