The neighbouring communities of Wartook and Lahurum in Victoria are both launching their community websites today.
The neighbouring communities of Wartook and Lahurum in Victoria are both launching their community websites today. www.wartook.vic.au and www.laharum.vic.au were developed by the Laharum and Wartook Community Building Initiative Steering Committee to improve communications in the region and to build on a sense of community spirit.
The Wartook site incorporates lovely images of the local wildlife into the website design where the Lahurum site features the beautiful landscape of a canola field in the region. Both websites were designed with the help of the new web design service offered by .au Community Domains.
Website administrator, Mr David Thompson said, “I am excited about the opportunities these sites provide for our communities. Our presence on the world wide web provides us with an incredible tool to inform, communicate and promote.”
The local steering committee decided that community websites would provide a great opportunity to consolidate the growing sense of community and need for readily accessible information and feedback.
“This is new technology providing support for the traditional values of community.” Mr Thompson said, “Our dispersed and diverse community will be able to use the websites as virtual community centres that are physically absent in a rural community.”
Both sites provide information about each of the Laharum and Wartook localities, including sporting groups, community organisations and facilities, local news and events and links to important sites to region.
