Kardinya website launch a huge success

05/Aug/2009

The Kardinya community in Western Australia have just celebrated the launch of their new community website with Russell Aubrey, Mayor of the City of Melville inaugurating the new site.

At the launch event on Thursday, community members chatted over fine food and drinks deep into the night, bursting with ideas about information that could be included on www.kardinya.wa.au.

According to Kardinya Residents Association President Chris Soutar, the launch event itself was a huge success, “It was great to see the community have taken this onboard as ‘their’ site, just as we had hoped.”

The website is being managed by the Kardinya Residents Association who has been a prominent group within the community for the past twenty years. Chris says, “We hope through this website we can draw the community together by recognising our uniqueness and all the many ways we can be involved in our local area. Our aim is to help build a sense of community spirit and pride in our suburb.”

The name Kardinya has Aboriginal origins and is believed to mean ‘sunrise’. Chris and website developer Alan Muir have tried to include this concept into the design of the Kardinya site with the central image being of a sunrise at the local lake in Fredrick Baldwin Park.
