Frankston North's new website helps community renewal project
03/Aug/2009
The Victorian bay-side community of Frankston North is launching its new community website today:
www.frankstonnorth.vic.au/
The website has grown out of a community renewal project set up by the State Government for selected communities around Victoria. This project was established to build connections, engagement and infrastructure for people and groups in Frankston North.
The steering committee of the community renewal project envisaged the new site would provide news and information about local community events and services. According to website administrator Lindsay Swadling, “The aim was to inform, equip and involve local community members. When Community Geographic Domain Name websites came to the committee's attention we knew that we had found the ideal means for building our web presence.”
Michelle May, of the Frankston North Community Renewal Project Team, said, "Our new community web site is part of a three-pronged communication strategy that also includes a monthly printed newsletter, delivered to resident’s letter boxes, and two revamped public notice boards located at the two shopping strips in our area. We recognise that many people use the internet as a source of news and information and we wanted to be able to provide that to the members of our community. It is very satisfying to see that vision becoming a reality."
Lindsay adds, “Our website has just begun, but it will continue to grow, as our local volunteers gather and write information and news, and work on developing it. You are invited to visit often to learn more about Frankston North and the people who live here.”
