Daintree

According to the Tourism Daintree Coast Inc, managers of the Daintree community site:

"We are pioneers in conservation through World Heritage listing in 1988.  Many landholders found that their lands and rainforests had been included in the Wet Tropics of Australia World Heritage area.

This was a first for Australia and our small community has accepted the challenge of an amazing cultural change from farming and cabinet timber extraction to ecotourism.

We rely on ethical travellers to find their way into the world's oldest rainforest at the point where reef and forest unite in a richness of biodiversity unequalled anywhere on our planet.  Our community offers accommodation to suit all pockets, activities that show the beauty and complexity of the area, restaurants that excite the appetite and beautiful white beaches fringed by the Great Barrier Reef.

We welcome visitors who are keen to support the community and explore the wonders of this unique landscape with local experts.  The Daintree River Ferry is the Gateway to Nature's Masterpiece."
