New website at the Copa - Copacabana (NSW)
20/Oct/2009
The Copacabana community celebrated the launch of their new community website last week, with Chris Holstein, Mayor of the City of Gosford inaugurating the new site
Copacabana is located on the Central Coast of New South Wales about an hours drive north of Sydney. Captain Cook Lookout overlooks the beach and provides magnificent views of the New South Wales coastline from the Entrance to Sydney. With local shops, magnificent restaurants, cafes and bars just across the road, Copacabana Beach is the ideal spot to enjoy a wonderful breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The Combined Community Groups of Copacabana have built the new site to keep the community up-to-date with local happenings while creating an online home for each individual community group.
According to Patrick Spedding webmaster www.copacabana.nsw.au, “By establishing a community website, we aim to draw the community together and encourage more active involvement in our local area. Our aim is to help build a sense of community spirit and pride in our village.” Even before the launch the website had already attracted over 1,000 hits and almost 100 Twitter followers.
At the launch event on Thursday, community members chatted with the Mayor, discussing the many ways the website could be used to drive community participation and collaboration. Mayor Holstein was given a demonstration of the website and was very supportive of the initiative, offering to link to the community website from Gosford Council’s own website.
According to Adam Richards the Vice-President of Copacabana Surf Life Saving Club, the launch event was a huge success. “It was great to see the community, and the community groups, have taken this onboard as ‘their’ site, just as we had hoped.”
