New Buchan site features Community Fire Plan based on Royal Commission findings
06/Aug/2010
The rural community of Buchan in the beautiful East Gippsland region of Victoria is launching a new community website this week.
An area renowned for its caves, limestone cliffs and the Snowy River, Buchan has a rich history with fossils and bones of creatures found in the mega fauna period some 10,000 years ago.
The new site has been designed for both visitors and local residents of the area and includes a website directory with information on accommodation, local businesses, community groups and transport. There is also photos depicting the history of the town and a section dedicated to the Community Fire Plan.
In times of fire threat the site will be used to send out current information to the community. Website Administrator Evelyn Schmidt said, “The importance of communication has been highlighted by the Royal Commission into the 2009 fires and we will be using the site amongst other avenues of communication to keep our community up to date.” DSE (Department of Sustainability and Environment) burn off notices and information will also be posted to the website throughout the year.”

Evelyn continues, “Our aim for this website is to not only be a useful tool for visitors to the area, but also keep residents updated on what is happening in their community. We hope that this new website becomes a central point for communication for the Buchan community.”
