Cockfighter Country now has community website

The new Broke “Cockfigher Country” community website is now online :

After the success of the Wollombi community website within the region, Broke locals have decided to jump onto the CGDN bandwagon.

Broke is a small village in the NSW Hunter Valley, the centre of the celebrated Broke Fordwich Wine Region and situated on the banks of Wollombi Brook - a waterway with deep Aboriginal significance, known locally as Cockfighter Creek.

Peter Firminger - Online Community Developer and Chair of the Greater Wollombi Communities Alliance said "The website itself is a part of the Wollombi Valley Online system, now hosting and integrating seven websites -  five for local community groups and the two community websites - and”

Mike Wilson From Mount Broke Wines - the organiser of the Broke Website states "Having seen the success of the Wollombi Website, which was covering the whole region, a group of Broke people got together to ask Peter about creating a specific Community Website for the Broke area. It made sense to build on the content and functionality already contained in the Wollombi website giving us a great head start as much of the Broke-related content already existed."

The website features real-time local weather, real-time fire danger level and Total Fire Ban notices, local job listings, keyword-related newsfeed from WotNews (the keywords are still being honed as "Broke" is a common word) and anything a visitor or resident could need to know about the region.

"With a bit of work, we can extend this regional network to include other cities, towns and villages around the Hunter Valley and Central Coast in the coming years. Acting local is extremely important, but widening the lens a little to create a distributed network helps the entire region come together, fostering valuable relationships between regional businesses and like-minded community groups." Mt Firminger concluded.
