Ballarat Community Website goes live!

27/Jul/2006

The Mayor and CEO of City of Ballarat officially launched the Ballarat Community Website on 26th July, 2006

Ballarat

"So with our own virtual postcode, ballarat.vic.au, the communities of Ballarat achieve at the very least, 2 things.  The first is a greater profile that they control, between themselves and the rest of the world.  The second is a communications tool as between each other.  A community enabling tool built by the community for the community" - Richard Hancock, CEO City of Ballarat and Chair of cBallarat

"It is the integrated approach that has allowed us to build a platform that will leverage all of the components we have built in the past.  And I am happy to affirm that this Council has a long term commitment to supporting these initiatives and maintaining them wherever this is needed, in the long term." -  David Vendy, Mayor of Ballarat

"ballarat.vic.au is an inclusive online communications toolbox for community groups and non-profit organisations.  It's not just about websites, it's about using that toolbox for communications amongst communities and as a learning and teaching tool.  This will be a resource that will be driven by the community but solidly supported by the Council and cBallarat.  As Ballarat's virtual postcode, the portal's Big Ballarat List will build up to be the authoritative gateway and listing of all websites and online resources in and about Ballarat" - George Fong cBallarat

cBallart were one of 3 Community Website Groups involved in the One City One Site (OCOS) pilot study.  The Community Website Groups formed by Ballarat, Bathurst and Wollongong in the pilot study have recieved early release of their domain name licences in recognition for all their work and support.
