.au Community Domains in conjunction with Volunteer Team held a community information seminar in Gordonvale, a half an hour drive south of Cairns on Wednesday the 28th of November 2009.
The seminar entitled the "Far North Queensland Community Bush Telegraph" took place at Djarragun College, a well known bording school located at the base of Djarragun Mountain (also known as Walsh's Pyramid). Most of the students at Djarragun are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
auCD General Manager Leonie Dunbar explained how communities can apply for and create a unique website for their town using Community Geographic Domain Names. Dave Abraham from Volunteer Team explained how volunteer groups can have access to online communication systems which include features such as a group SMS facility.
With representatives from Edmonton, Cairns, Gordonvale and Red Lynch in addition to members from Djarragun College the event went very well with community members expressing interest in a website for their towns.
